The Welcome Cocktail

Mr. Andreas Kellerhals, President of the Scientific Committee and Director of the Swiss Federal Archives, made the 8th European Conference on Digital Archiving opening speech during the Welcome Cocktail that was held at the Conference Center in Geneva (CICG). He emphasized the importance of digital and non-digital archives in our societies, no matter the form or the format, and the need to reflect on the new challenges of our profession. Professionals are encouraged to exchange information and share knowledge so that all can benefit. Ms. Isabel Rochat, State Counselor of the City of Geneva, spoke about memory, history and the need to preserve the electronic legacy.

    In the 4th picture, the person standing next to Isabel Rochat is wearing the uniform of a “huissier”. The “huissiers” are employees of the state. They aren’t exactly bodyguards, but, amongst other duties, have to stand next to the members of the government during their official representation tasks.

    A traditional dress of the Geneva region looks slightly different – have a look at http://www.fccg.ch.
